Towards a quantum based sustainable future
The European energy grid is the world’s largest interconnected electric network, linking the diverse power grids of the member countries across the continent. It faces tremendous challenges, including fluctuating power demand and supply provided by the increasing integration of renewable energies as well as simultaneously matching high security standards to protect the critical infrastructure against cyber attacks.
Our mission is to tackle these challenges by exploring the potential of quantum technologies such as quantum computing and communication to transform the planning and operation of energy grids.
Our mission
Through interdisciplinary research together with our partners, we combine our strong expertise in power systems and quantum technologies to lay the foundations for quantum-based energy grids. Therefore, we use our unique scientific infrastructure of FZJ, RWTH Aachen, University of Münster and Fraunhofer (FIT) institute with strong and longstanding expertise in power systems, quantum computing analytics and high-performance computing.
