Quantum edge devices
Quantum based edge grids device
Edge devices play an important role in power systems, especially due to the recent expansion on the deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs) and sensors. By bringing the data processing and computing closer to the data sources, there can be less overload in data transmission. However, edge devices can have fewer computing capabilities and often present security vulnerabilities. Quantum-based technologies can help by improving the computing power and security of edge devices, but they also create new challenges due to the necessity of fast and reliable data conversion and transfer between classical and quantum devices.
Our goal is to define the requirements of edge devices in relation to quantum technologies. The requirements will be based on the identification of existing relevant power system use cases that involve edge devices and edge computing. Building on current requirements and use cases, the goal is to formulate future scenarios of a quantum edge device.
